Didn’t Avast have a responsibility to notify users of the free Ccleaner that had been hacked found out by accident today?

On July 18, 2017, Avast bought Piriform, the manufacturer of CCleaner. The corrupted version of CCleaner was launched on August 15 and went unnoticed for four weeks, demonstrating the complexity of the attack.

Avast corrected the vulnerability within 72 hours after its discovery, with no known effect to Piriform customers. Unfortunately, they were unable to automatically update free CCleaner customers since the free version lacks auto-update capability.
